About Forge the Future

Forge The Future is a project initiated by Pennsylvania businesses. Its goal is to unlock the economic potential of the state’s world-class natural gas reserves, while positioning Pennsylvania as the epicenter of next-generation manufacturing, ultimately make energy-enabled growth a reality across the state.

Pennsylvania’s World-Class Energy Resources

Pennsylvania sits within the third largest natural gas and natural gas liquids field on the planet. This energy resource has significant potential to propel the Commonwealth’s economic growth. But this potential is still mostly untapped.

Over the past several years, the upstream oil and gas industry has worked to develop the resource and created measurably strong job growth for Pennsylvanians. However, there has been little increased in-state demand for the energy Pennsylvania produces.

Translating Pennsylvania’s Energy Potential into Prosperity

It’s time for a comprehensive view of energy-driven economic development that includes the midstream—or distribution—and downstream—or demand-side.

Pennsylvania is well positioned to build the next generation of natural gas and NGL applications, while also developing the next innovations to manufacture those new products. The Commonwealth has all the assets and ingredients to create the Future of Manufacturing.

Forge The Future is focused on helping Pennsylvania fulfill the promise of this significant economic opportunity and translate our energy potential into sustained, broad prosperity for ALL.

Forge The Future started out as a project of Chevron and Peoples Natural Gas, with a Steering Committee that included The Allegheny Conference on Community Development and the Chamber of Commerce of Greater Philadelphia. Since then, we’ve built partnerships with the Pennsylvania Chamber of Business and Industry, the Pennsylvania Manufacturers’ Association, Columbia Gas, U.S. Steel, and ultimately make energy-enabled economic growth a reality across the state.
